How can I make my hair colour last longer?

“How can I make my hair colour last longer?”

This is one of the questions I get asked most often.

Have you ever wished your hair colour would last just a little longer?

I feel exactly the same because I colour my own hair too.

Hair colouring takes time, so it’s only natural to want it to last as long as possible.

So why does hair colour fade?

Hair colour works by opening the cuticle, lightening your natural pigment, and then placing new colour inside the hair.

The key is to keep those colour pigments inside the hair for as long as possible.

I know most of us don’t want to spend too much time or effort on hair care.

Here are three easy and effective ways to make your colour last longer.

1. Use a colour-safe shampoo with gentle cleansing power.

Think about washing dishes or doing laundry.

Different detergents are designed for different types of dirt.

Shampoo works in a similar way.

If the cleansing power is too strong, colour pigments are washed away more easily.

2. Use heat styling tools less often.

Hair straighteners and curling irons usually reach temperatures of around 160℃ ~ 180℃.
If you use them every day, heat causes colour pigments to fade more quickly.

3. Dry hair completely

I know drying your hair completely can feel like a hassle, especially in Singapore’s hot weather.

However, if your hair is wet, your cuticles are open, your hair has less protection so pigments escape more easily.

Imagine carrying water in a cup without a lid.

Even worse, sunlight on wet hair can also make your hair more alkaline, which isn’t ideal for colour retention.

So make sure to dry your hair completely.

Using a leave-in treatment with UV protection is also a great idea.

There are other things you can do as well, but if you’re not doing any of these yet, I’d recommend starting with these three.

If you’d like to take your colour care one step further, I recommend investing in a carefully selected shampoo. I believe it’s one of the most effective ways to maintain your hair colour.

One of my favourites is Metal DX because it helps remove metal buildup from the hair.

Singapore has relatively hard water, so minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron can build up inside the hair.

This buildup can make hair colour fade faster and even affect colour results.

Home care is important, but I also understand that some people prefer salon treatments because they’re easier and more effective.

After colouring, the hair remains slightly alkaline.
Returning it to a healthy pH helps colour stay inside the hair.

We’ve also introduced our Quick Colour Care service.

 Soda × pH Care - $50

It combines our Soda Spa with a pH-balancing treatment.

You don’t have to do all of these.

Even making just one small change can help your colour last longer.

Everyone’s hair and lifestyle are different.

If you’re not sure which colour care is best for you, I’d be happy to help you choose.
