Can Brushing Before Shampooing Improve Your Hair's Conditions?

Hi everyone,
I’m Endo, a hair designer at MICHAELA.
Today I’d like to talk about something simple but surprisingly effective—brushing your hair before shampooing.
My hair is a little longer than most men my age, but every day I use super-strong wax or gel, followed by an ultra-strong hairspray to keep my style in place.
Living in Singapore, where it’s hot and the humidity is usually around 80–90%, hairstyles can easily lose their shape as soon as you step outside.
That’s why my hair ends up feeling almost like a helmet every day!

Recently, I noticed that even after shampooing, some styling product seemed to remain on the ends of my hair, making it feel rough and difficult to run my fingers through.
I started looking for a better way to remove the buildup, and I came across a simple tip: brushing your hair during your shower.
First, rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water. Then, gently brush from the ends upward.
If you have a little extra time, apply a small amount of conditioner first to soften the hair before brushing. It helps the brush glide through more easily.
After that, shampoo your hair as you normally would.

I find that this helps loosen styling product buildup, making it easier to wash away and leaving my hair feeling much cleaner.
Brushing also provides gentle stimulation to the scalp, which may help promote healthy circulation.
If you use wax, gel, or hairspray every day, I highly recommend giving this a try.
It only takes a few extra minutes, but it can make a noticeable difference.
